In this devised and modernized take on Ibsen’s timeless classic, social media and surveillance plays a prescient role when a doctor is villified for wanting to put health over profit when he finds out his town’s wellness baths are contaminated with deadly bacteria. The media design features livestreams around the world of water, including one set up outside the theatre looking at the Iowa River. This imagery invites the audience to consider their connection to and impact on bodies of water not just in their community, but globally. During the town hall scene in Act IV, the actors break through the fourth wall as a handheld livestream captures a mob leave the stage and race outside the theatre.
